Toni’s Bucket List
We all have one…
Hopefully getting mine out of my head and onto this page will give me the push to start crossing items off in 2019.
So here we go:
Run a Marathon
A full 26.2. Just once, just to prove to myself that I can. Just to join the club and be a “real runner”
Go SCUBA Diving
Okay, so between the wildlife getting too close and breathing from a tank deep below the water’s surface, I’m pretty sure this one will terrify me. But I’ve got to try it once. There’s so much to sea down there!
Hike a Glacier
You know, before they’re all gone.
Swim with Sea Turtles
My ex told me I looked like a turtle. (Apparently my top lip is beak-ish?) You can be the judge yourself. Ever since then I’ve been fascinated by these creatures and really realllllly want to swim with them in the sea.
Update
Live outside the U.S.
I studied abroad in Australia, writing for a local newspaper and attending classes for the four months I was there. Travel is great, big trips are awesome, but there is something different about settling in, becoming part of a local community that is different from your own. Learning the nuances of a place, the undercurrent of social thought and the best corner coffee shops. I’ve been wanting to try it again basically since I got back.
Sing a song I wrote. In front of people.
Overcoming debilitating stage fright…no big deal right?
Become a mom
Looking at my lifestyle this probably seems the furthest thing from my mind. But it’s there, in the back. I’m in my thirties now, ovaries disintegrating as I type and the most single (and content) I’ve ever been. So it’s anyone’s guess how this one will play out.
Learn to play an instrument
Instead of just the body drums. Could help with item 6.
Travel Solo
I attempted this TWICE in 2018 and both times the plan was foiled (Once when I scored a free room at the Four Seasons Papagayo in Costa Rica and couldn’t possibly leave for my ramshackle solo mission in a $40 Airbnb, and the second time a much sadder occaision, when a death in the family caused me to abandon my “kickin’ it in Vancouver solo trip for a last minute flight home.) I feel like it’s one of those things you just have to do– especially as a woman. To prove you can, to gain insight into your own strengths and weaknesses, and most importantly for me, to push yourself outside your comfort zone.
Learn to speak Spanish
Cause it’s soooooo embarrassing being a monolingual American.
Finish a novel
Whether it’s one of the six I’ve started or a brand new story, it’s got to be done.
Hike Mount Washington
At 6,228 feet elevation, serious mountaineers might scoff at the New Hampshire summit. I’m more of a joy hiker and have been wanting to take on this quintessential New England hike for years. Summer 2019? Who’s coming!?
Make a Trek
This could be a hike or a long, long walk. But an extended pilgrimage, bonus points if done alone.
